Western

The western region of Ghana, adjoining the border with Cote d'Ivoire, presents a striking contrast between ancient and modern. Although one of the first areas to welcome early European traders and now distinguished by the large numbers of castles and forts, the Region also boast some of the oldest mines in the country and our modern harbour and commercial centre at Takoradi. The region includes also some of the most fertile and land in Ghana, and the roads are lined with rubber and cocoa plantations and farms.

Nzulezu Settlement The only way to reach Nzuleze Stilt Village is by canoe, which takes about an hour to reach from Beyin the departure point. Nzulezu is an amazing little fishing village built entirely on stilts in the middle of Lake Amansuri. The village is constructed out of wood and raffia, with one central walkway and about two dozen houses on either side. Nearly everything here takes place on or just above the water, like schooling, cooking, playing, working. This unique community, far from the hustle of daily Ghanaian life, is home to about 600 people.

Cape Three Points Cape Three Point is at the southernmost point of the country. The main attraction is the red and white Cape Three Point lighthouse, which was built in 1930. It is permitted to climb the lighthouse and enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views of the countryside. Besides this lighthouse there is also Cape Three Points Coastal Reserve and the remains of the old lighthouse built in 1875. Here you can sometimes spot whales and dolphins that use this sea route during their migration. Cape Tree Points is also known among surfers as a great surfing point.
